small hiatus... barf bags, a night out, and climbing

so, it's been a spell since i posted... not for lack of fun and adventure but apparently a bit too much of the two as i came down with a bug and was off the map (and on a couch) for a few days. with that out of my system i'm back in all my glory - and here is a much needed update :^)

last week i had the pleasure of taking the ferry over to auckland to meet up with jon and bexie for a night and a day in the big little city. bex had purchased a ferry ticket to run some errands in auckland but then jon made arrangements to go to the city to pick up some new sweet baby fruit trees, so they two of them drove together and i lucked out with the ferry ticket.

the ferry between coromandel town and auckland runs a few days a week in the winter, and left at 4p on tuesday afternoon from the harbor. the sun was out but unfortunately, it was on the windy side. the first hour of the 2 hour trip was CHOPPY to say the least. we took water over the bow of the boat on every surge, lost some bow line at one point, and couldn't see much of anything out the windows through all the sea spray. the attendant handed out barf bags to everyone, whether we wanted them or not.

the second half of the trip across the bay was perfectly fine, although dark enough not to see much of the scenery.  i'll have to try the trip again once the days get a bit longer and the weather isn't so terrible.

jon picked me up at the ferry terminal in auckland, we rendezvous-ed with bexie at the backpackers, and then had a night out with dinner and a movie (inception), which after a month and a half in coromandel town felt like the most happening night of the year.

on wednesday morning we had brunch at a great little organic, vegetarian cafe called kokako (which i had enjoyed before) and then we hit up the auckland climbing gym for a much needed workout (much needed by me).  it had been so long since i had been climbing but it felt so good to get back into a harness and it was a great gym with tons of variety - we were definitely entertained for several hours (and exhausted afterwards).
